New Kitchen
Project Description
There are two basic situations where a new kitchen is required:
- A new build home with an open room and a blank canvas for a kitchen solution.
- An existing home where the current kitchen is either old and tired or the kitchens layout was poorly thought out and the only solution is to replace it with a completely new approach.\
In this example we had the pleasure of designing a new kitchen for a new home.
Tweakit Solution
It was a typical island kitchen layout. The challenges however were to fit everything into what was a reasonable small space.
Steps:
- Have the builder construct a bulkhead to the back wall. This integrated the joinery into the back wall rather than have it stand out in the room.
- Used flap doors above fridge and cooking space, this provides maximum assess to the space without doors extended into the room at head height.
- Balance the lay out by having the fridge one side and the pantry the other, this centralized the hob to line up with the sink.
- Use drawers as the main source of storage, this provides best utilisation of the available storage space. Note the pull-out bottle store adjacent to the oven for easy access to oils etc when cooking. Utensil tray and spice rack to top drawer right of hob.
- Under bench microwave. Not everyone’s choice however it did provide a space without it sitting on the bench or a bulky unit hanging on the wall.
- White on white cabinetry and bench tops (cabinetry exterior, Durastyle gloss doors and panels by Panelform. Bench tops, Arborite HPL laminate by Heritage Hardware). Sink insert undermounted.
- Appliances. Parmco range hood, oven, hob and dishwasher.
- Handles. ‘Turin’ brush nickle finish by Heritage Hardware.
A simple but effective design using a nutral colour pelet and clean lines. This kitchen provides functionality while allowing for accents and enhancments with the use of furnishings and lighting.
